I need your help forumers
hi guys im new to the site. I have been playing guild wars on and off for about 3 years now and have only really done pve. Recently ive been dabbing in the pvp side of things, but i am aweful and need help. I play on my dervish and i run the AoB and pious teardown builds from pvx wiki. I really only play RA because my guild is just a few close friends and nothing serious. I can do okay but im not anything great. My stratagy is run in with my teamates and target monks and mesmers. Ill stop when the monk uses a stance like bonatti's defence until it wears off or if im hexed with empathy and i can't take it off (pious restoration is on recharge). So im asking you guys as you seem to be very very good, for help. So what are some of the pvp basics and terms that i need to know to become a pro. Like what is linebacking? Should i use zealous or vampiric or sundering? What are the best runes/insignias to put on my armor? stuff like that, im really noob at pvp so any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Attacking the damage sources (generally melee) in order to relieve pressure from the backline (monks)

Vamp/Sund when attacking for damage (vamp preferred generally) Zeal when you're low on energy and need to recharge.

Sup vigor is optimal (+50), any vigor is neccesary.
Other than that, armor is generally preferred to health.
+1+1 in your main attribute, +1 in any other you use. Rune of Restoration/Clarity helps a bit on melee
Hope this helps.

This list might be a little outdated and/or incomplete, but It might be a good start.

ok so so when is it a good idea to lineback? only when monks are taking heavy pressure or at anytime? Im assuming there are other terms like linebacking but ive only ever heard of linebacking so if possible can someone tell me what those other stategies are and when i would be a good time/ situation to use them?
Many thanks guys

It really depends on the situation in the match and the enemy team composition. Linebacking doesn't necessarily mean attacking melee either, it means getting on whatever is doing big damage/pressure so that that enemy has to kite (I.E. stop standing theree in casting) or can't camp frenzy. Generally you want to lineback when your team is taking heavy pressure or if the enemy frontline is particularly squishy/low on health.
A lot of times linebacking can be more beneficial than hitting monks even if you aren't under pressure for the simple reason that backline characters are generally very well equipped defensively. They have a LOT of armor (from disciples + shield set) and usually several defensive skills too (bonetti's, dolyak, disciplined, balanced, shield stance, prot defense, dark escape, return, etc). A lot of the times heavy damage dealers (sins, dervs, mes, eles) won't bring these same defensive skills and won't have access to the same defensive equipment (lots of physicals won't be wearing shields and midline casters sit on their casting sets instead of shield sets a lot of the time). Therefore you can often do a lot more damage/pressure by linebacking than you would by attacking the monks. So a lot of the time it makes more sense to lineback (even when not under pressure).

If you're new then Dervish is a very good place to start.

I play melee most times. Your job is to force pressure and make kills.
Look at the map. Look at your team composition. In RA keep an eye out for people not in their shield sets. These are free pressure targets. You dont even need to hit a monk. If you just sit on a target with no shield, they end up dying fast ( also RA monks dont have guardian so they waste all energy).
Watch for blind. If you know ur gonna get blind - change to your blind shield. If you see necros - have a weakness shield set. Ability to note who is going to use what is critical, because you can time an interupt on them. (I play axe), but i know dervs also carry rupts.
If you have a monk in ur team. You can win by backlining another teams melee as a dervish. The number of times I have had a dervish sit on me, and I had to kite as a warrior to avoid being killed!
Also watch positioning. If you see a player away from enemy monks heal ranger. Punish them.

So today i tryed out an AoG build and it has been working rather well for me but it seems like every team i go against has an air ele that perma blinds me. Is there any good counter to this or do i have to just wait it out, ive already but 20% shorter blinding on my armor but it still seems im blinded constantely. So is there any good condition removal that i could use? if so which skill should i swap it out for? Right now im running AoG, grenth's aura, cripling sweep, chilling victory, heart of fury (are there any better IAS?), harrier's haste, res sig, and attackers iinsight

Grenth's fingers works pretty well i guess. Pious fury > heart of fury. Also you need DW, i'd take wearing strike of chilling.

At the end of the day it depends what you want from playing the game. Certainly I can say that that my frontlining improved hugely from playing war, but it certainly wasn't an instant thing. Initially I pretty much sucked. This is due to learning curve of the warrior being much steeper and longer than assassins and dervishes.
A while back I made some videos designed to introduce new players to the warrior profession. Please feel free to take a look and decide if its what you are looking for when you play the game.
